FIETS! - BIKE!
From 21 May to 31 Oktober 2023, the exhibition FIETS! in Museum de Vier Quartieren in Oirschot.
The exhibition shows in a nutshell the technical and social development of the bicycle in the 19th century.
The exhibition has been realized in collaboration with members of the historical cycling association 'De Oude Fiets'.

Especially after 1870 the bicycle underwent an enormous development. From the 'bone shaker' with wooden wheels via the high bi - the bicycle with the large front wheel - to the safety bicycle with chain and pneumatic tires. In the early days, the bicycle was only reserved for wealthy people as a pastime and sport. Only much later does the bicycle become a daily means of transport for the whole of society.
Oirschot and the museum
In the lovely historic centre of Oirschot, behind the basilica, is Museum de Vier Quartieren.
It is housed in a listed heritage building, a former claustral or cloister house from the late Middle Ages.
Oirschot is located between the cities of Eindhoven, Den Bosch and Tilburg. It nestles in between beautiful areas of nature such as De Kampina, De Mortelen, Het Groene Woud and De Landschotse Heide.
A visit to Oirschot and our museum will give you a lasting memory of the beautiful and welcoming province of Brabant.

Het Oog van Vincent Exhibition (What Vincent Saw)
The new living experience exhibition, 'What Vincent Saw', tells the story of life in an Oirschot farming family, as seen through the eyes of the famous artist, Vincent van Gogh.
The museum shows us how sustainably our ancestors dealt with food and energy. We can smell and taste the dishes, peel the potatoes, touch the fabric of the clothing and experience what it was like to sleep in a box bed. The unique objects in the museum's collection tie in seamlessly with the reproductions of Van Gogh paintings. '

You'll find fun gift articles in our museum shop that all have some connection to the exhibition, Oirschot and Van Gogh. At present, for example, we have lovely Van Gogh birthday calendars, cards, napkins and tea-light holders. The museum shop is open to the public. Why not take a look?!
